Chambray

Wednesday, October 3, 2012

This weekend I finally slowed down enough to move all of my summer clothes out of my closet and make room for my winter clothes. This is the easiest time to get rid of the clothes you never wear and see what fall trends you need to run out and buy. My mom is coming in town this weekend and we plan to put the finishing touches on my apartment as well as do some fall decorating! I am thinking white pumpkins with hints of gold glitter.

I plan to wear this Chambray shirt all weekend

and add this necklace at night!

Happy Fall!

Freshen up with spray paint

Freshened stuff!
For my move to Louisville I wanted to use pieces of furniture and knick-knacks that I already had laying around. But the last thing I want is for my new place to look thrown together (frat house style is not in). To make sure my things look new and fresh we decided to have a spray paint party. we started out with a 90's brown/black lamp (think sponge technique), a brown flower pot, a cheap black frame, and an orange foo-dog.

Boring pot/frame/finished foo-dog
The lamp we sprayed a matte black , it only took one coat and I am obsessed with how it turned out. The frame, pot, and foo-dog took a couple (okay like 4) coats but they look like new pieces now. I plan on using the pot for a topiary (one of my new obsessions). The lamp shade is from potter barn outlet and makes this lamp very versatile. There are a ton of cool colors and finishes available in spray paint so I'm sure this won't be the last spray paint party you'll see us have.

Homemade Bread! An easy "thank you" for friends. This is a great recipe to have on hand for the upcoming holidays! One of my best friends gave me this recipe and we use it often.

Only 8 ingredients
Baked as muffins
Baked as a loaf

Phoebe's Chocolate Chip Banana Bread

1/2 cup margarine (room temp)
1 cup sugar
2 ripe bananas
2 cups all purpose flour
1t. baking powder
1/2 t. salt
1 cup chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350
Cream together butter and sugar. Add eggs and then bananas. ( I like to use a potato masher to mash the bananas.)
Sift the dry ingredients in a seperate bowl and slowly add to the wet mixture.
Gently stir in the chocolate chips.

bake for about 20 min.or until firm and light brown.

Six days until the big move and only twenty to-do lists. I had no idea how many things were involved with a "big-girl" move. Having to learn as I go!

Trying anything I can to reduce stress. This fresh pear smoothie is a great way to start the day. It's light and packed full of healthy energy-boosters.

Fresh Pear Smoothie
-1 frozen pear
-1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
-1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
-1/8 tsp cinnamon
-1/2 tsp honey
-3 large ice cubes
*blend until smooth

The Beginning

Wednesday, August 29, 2012

Welcome to the Hartford world. In the midst of crazy changes in our lives we are making yet another to do list. In seven days we will move Allie from Atlanta, Ga, to Louisville, Kentucky to start her first job. With a million other things to do we thought it would be the perfect time to start a blog.

Before we go into panic mode we are sitting down to enjoy a cup of coffee and a few minutes together.

We hope you will follow us on this adventure as we adjust to living 437.64 miles apart.
